Kitakyushu

Mekari Park

Mekari Park is a popular spot for bird watchers and hanami goers. Situated at the western tip of Setonaikai National Park, the park is 36 hectares in size and only 700 meters away from Honshu.

Akama Jingu Shrine

was founded in 1185. Rebuilt in 1958, the vermilion-lacquered gate that overlooks the Kanmon Strait near Dannoura has come to symbolize Akama-jingu. In the temple precincts, visitors can see the Shichimori-zuka (seven mounds) that are sacred to the Heike warriors who lost the battle of Dannoura
