Akama Jingu Shrine
was founded in 1185. Rebuilt in 1958, the vermilion-lacquered gate that overlooks the Kanmon Strait near Dannoura has come to symbolize Akama-jingu. In the temple precincts, visitors can see the Shichimori-zuka (seven mounds) that are sacred to the Heike warriors who lost the battle of Dannoura
