Beppu

Takasakiyama Monkey Park

Takasakiyama Monkey Park is a popular monkey reserve at the base of Mount Takasaki, a 628 meter high mountain along the coast between Beppu and Oita City. The mountain is home to some 1500 wild Japanese macaques that roam freely around its steep, forested slopes.

Former Residence of Fukuzawa Yukichi at Nakatsu

Fukuzawa Yukichi, whose likeness appears on the 10,000 yen note, resided here until the age of nineteen. He is well known for later contributing to the modernization of Japan, and for founding Keio University.

Harmony Land

Harmony Land is a small amusment park that can be found in the city of Hiji in Oita Prefecture. The park is mainly focussed on children and Sanrio fans, but there are also othe attractions which make it suitable for the whole family. There are daily live shows, and a magical atmosphere during seasonal holidays such as Halloween and Christmas.

Umitamago Aquarium

The Oita Marine Palace Aquarium is located on the Takasaki Yamashita Coast in Oita City, Oita Prefecture, Japan. Its common name is Umitamago. The aquarium opened in 1964 as the Oita Marine Palace Ecological Aquarium, and was reopened on April 1, 2004 as the Oita Marine Palace Aquarium

Myoban Onsen Yu-no-Sato

Myoban Yu no Sato is home to thatch-roofted "Yu no Hanagoya," a group of sheds for collecting residues from the local hot spring water. This relaxing facility features a large-sized open-air bath, a souvenir shop for original items, a restaurant with local specialty cuisine, and more.

Rakan-ji Temple

Rakan-ji is a Sōtō temple in Nakatsu, Oita Prefecture, Japan. The temple stands on the mountainside of Mt. Rakan, the rocky cliff of which has countless mouths of caves. The main gate and the main hall stand directly in the rocky cliff. In the caves, over 3,700 stone Buddhas are enshrined.
