Miyako Island
Miyako Island, located 300 kilometers south of Okinawa Main Island. It is a relatively flat island made of elevated coral reef, a great destination for snorkeling and diving in the coral reefs. Far from bustling shopping streets and neon nightlife, this island is a peaceful getaway where hitting the beach is the number one pastime. There are no rivers on the island, and due to the fact that the soil does not flow out into the sea, it is well known for having numerous beaches of exceptional beauty. The sub-tropical climate provides mild weather year around.
Yonaha Maehama beach
This white sand beach in the southwestern corner of Miyako usually leads rankings of Japan's best beaches. It stretches seven kilometers and is suited for swimming and various other water sports. The beach is also known for beautiful sunsets.
Irabu Ohashi Bridge
Irabu Ohashi Bridge stretches between Miyako-jima Main Island and Irabu-jima Island, and it was first opened in January of 2015. This bridge contributes to a landscape of the sea and sky as a winding skyline.
East Henna Cape
East Henna Cape extends into the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea, Located at the southeastern tip of Miyakojima Island and is one of the most famous tourist spots on the island.About 2 kilometers long and 160 meters wide at its widest point, and consists of coral reefs and limestone rocks.
Makiyama Observation Deck
The Makiyama Observation Deck was modeled after the grey-faced buzzard spreading its wings in flight. Since the observation deck is located at the highest point of the island, you can get a bird’s eye view of Miyako Island, Kurima Island, Ikema Island, in addition to the entire Irabu Bridge.
Toguchino Hama Beach
Speaking of No.1 beach in Irabu Island, which is located about 5km northwest of Miyako Island, everybody will think of “Toguchi no Hama” quickly.Situated on the southwest of Irabu Island, the natural sand beach spreads about 50m wide, about 800m long as it unfolds in a gentle curve.
Yabiji
Yabiji, also known as Yaebiji, Yaebise, Yaebishi, and Yapiji and appearing on some historical Western nautical charts as Providence Reef, is the largest coral reef group in Japan. Located in the Miyako Islands, it contains over 100 coral reefs.
Sarahama Port
Heading down the slope toward the Sarahama Fishing Port, old concrete houses form a village, tightly laid out in a narrow alley reminiscent of a maze. A scene similar to that of a painting depicting a foreign fisherman’s town extends before your eyes.
Toriike Pond
A mysterious natural formation created by the erosion of limestone by rainwater. The bottom of the site is connected to the sea, making it a great place to dive. It is designated as a prefectural natural monument.
Imugya Marine Garden
It is a seaside park built by making the most use of a nature formation in the southern part of Miyako Island. The well-coordinated location with pond-like inland sea, bridges, and walking paths in lush green is somewhat reminiscent of Japanese garden, offers an unique sense of world.
