Iriomote Island
Iriomote Island is the second largest island after the main island of Okinawa, The entire island is designated as a national park, largely undeveloped, with nearly 90 percent of its land covered by dense jungle and mangrove forests. It offers the sea, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, and all kinds of living creatures bring a distinct charm here, draws many tourists each year to experience the rich nature.
Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park
Considered to be the most Southern National Park in Japan this beautiful piece of preserved Okinawa eco-system is densely covered with virgin forests of subtropical trees such as mangrove, oak and pasania, and is also famous as the habitat of indigenous Iriomote Wild Cat.
Hoshisuna Beach
Hoshisuna Beach is located at the northern tip of Iriomote Island, where snorkeling is enjoyed easily.Hoshinosuna means that star-shaped sand can be seen.
Pinaisara Falls
Pinaisara (meaning `like a beard`) at 55 meters is the highest waterfall in Okinawa. The waterfall has this name as from a distance it appears like a man`s beard.
Yubu Island
A small island,the water that divides Yubu Island from its larger neighbor is so shallow it can be crossed on foot. Although it is possible to walk across most people who visit Yubu Island elect for a ride in the popular yet slightly antiquated looking water buffalo taxi.
Iriomote Onsen
This onsen in the southest of Japan is the only one found in Iriomote. It is located between Ohara and Funaura. It has traditional segregated inside and outside baths, as well as sauna. To access the larger, mixed outside baths, you will however need to wear a swimming costume.
Tsukigahama Beach
This beach gets its name from its perfect crescent moon shape. The real unique feature of this beach is the sand, when walked on it makes a sound and is called “crying sand.” It’s worth a trip here just for the experience of having sand scream back at you when walked on.
Nakama River
The river cuts a path through mangrove forests, large sakishima-suo trees, and thick jungle plants. There is also a wide variety of living creatures that call this area home such as; Mud crabs, Shirenashijimi, and Barred Mud Skippers and of course the famous Iriomote Wild Cat.
Funauki Village
There is a spot on Iriomote Island that has been increasingly attracting the attention of tourists for the last several years. Funauki is a small, peaceful village with about 50 residents, is isolated from the rest of the island and has a tranquil feeling to it with a different sense of time.
Haemida Beach
The longest beach in Iriomote Island, about 3km away from "Toyohara", the end of the prefectural road running through Iriomote Island .The sand on the beach is fine and shallow,Collecting beautifully colored shells, oddly shaped pieces of coral, and other drifted objects.
