Nikko
Nikko is the capital of Tochigi Prefecture, where magnificent architecture, deep history and untouched nature merge. Attractions include the Futarasan Shrine, which dates to the year 767.
There are also many famous hot springs in the area. The mountains west of the main city are part of Nikko National Park. This city has been the backdrop of Shinto and Buddhist worship since at least the 8th century. Especially Toshogu Shrine, this lavishly decorated and magnificent shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Nikko Toshogu Shrine
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous for its lavish decorations and ornate details. This 400-year-old shrine houses the remains of Edo period's founder, Ieyasu Tokugawa.
Taiyuinbyo Shrine
Taiyuinbyo is the mausoleum of the third Tokugawa shogun, Iemitsu, the grandson of Ieyasu.

Kegon Falls
Kegon Waterfall is the most famous of Nikko's many beautiful waterfalls. In fact, it is even ranked as one of Japan's three most beautiful falls.
Rinnoji Temple
Rinnoji Temple is Nikko's most important temple. It was founded by Shodo Shonin, the Buddhist monk who introduced Buddhism to Nikko in the 8th century.
Futarasan Shrine
was founded in 782 by Shodo Shonin, the Buddhist monk who introduced Buddhism to Nikko and who also founded nearby Rinnoji Temple. Futarasan Shrine is dedicated to the deities of Nikko's three most sacred mountains: Mount Nantai, Mount Nyoho and Mount Taro.
Shinkyo Bridge
The Shinkyo Bridge stands at the entrance to Nikko's shrines and temples, and technically belongs to Futarasan Shrine.
Lake Chuzenji
Created by an eruption of Mt. Nantai, this lake is a symbol of Nikko.
Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura
Enjoy seeing special Oiran shows, ninja shows, and a replica of an old Edo town. Nikko Edomura is a small town built in Edo style architecture and populated by townspeople in period costume, and has been used as the setting for period tv dramas.
Yutaki Waterfall
The Yu Waterfall was a pretty unique-looking waterfall draining the lake Yu-no-ko by the Yumoto Onsen.
