Hakodate
The picturesque city of Hakodate that the third largest population in Hokkaido is renowned for its delectable seafood and splendid night views, also its historical background. A two-story wooden building across from the Kanamori Warehouse, sells Hokkaido souvenirs on the ground floor.The "Seafood Market" offers a wide range of products, including frozen hairy crab, long-legged crab, scallops and salmon, as well as pickled pickles and seafood dried in the sun.
Daimon Yokocho
The Hakodate Daimon Yokocho is the largest food stall village in Hokkaido.
Kyu Soma-tei
Kyu Soma-tei was constructed through his generous donation. It is a Japanese-style heritage structure representative of Hakodate.
The Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward
The hall commanding a panoramic view of Hakodate Bay is a two-story wooden structure with beautiful contrast of blue-grey walls and yellow window frames.
Cape Tachimachi
A cape located at the southeastern end of Mt. Hakodate.You will be impressed by the grand scenery of the steep cliffs surrounded by the sea. On clear days, you can see Aomori Prefecture across the Tsugaru Strait. Rugosa roses, the flower of Hokkaido, bloom beautifully here in summer.
Hakodate Museum of Northern Peoples
This museum is the place where you can try papercutting of the Ainu's traditional patterns, or making and playing their traditional musical instrument.
Hakodate Meiji-kan
This stately red-brick building was built as Hakodate Post Office in 1911. It is now used as a shopping mall. You can try your hand at making a musical box.
Hakodateshi Nettai Botanical Gardens (Hot-Tubbing Monkeys)
The Tropical Botanical Garden, located at a nook of Yunokawa Hot Spring, has a lot of Japanese monkeys. In winter, the pool in the breeding ground is filled with hot spring water. You can see the monkeys soaking themselves in the hot water happily. That would make a lovely picture on snowy day.
Cape Esan Lighthouse
The Cape Esan Lighthouse is located at the tip of the south-ease section of Oshima Peninsular of Hokkaido Island. This beautiful white lighthouse has been selected as one of the most popular 50 lighthouses in Japan.
